A few years back, a design graduate of Victoria University in New Zealand, Jake Evill created the Cortex Cast, a breathable, lightweight,
recyclable and washable exoskeleton that mimics the body’s trabecular, the small honeycomb-like structure that makes up your inner bone structure.
Although this has been around for a while… this 3D printed cast design still blows me away.
If you’ve ever had to wear a cast for any length of time you know how horrible an experience that is, and can immediately see the beauty and practicality of this innovative cast design. No plastic bags in the shower, no itches you can’t reach…and then there’s the air flow…
I’ve seen a few other 3D printed cast designs and Jake’s is far and above the most sleek and beautifully designed.
Truly, innovative design and the blending of form and function. Every time I look at this I can’t stop thinking about all the things I want to create.
…inspiration.
